Pomezia sulfur

in ancient times, this area was called Albunea, in reference to the small lakes created by the springs of white sulphurous waters. Until the 1970s, the land was used for sulphur extraction. Among the points of interest there is also a red lake, due to the presence of iron in the ground. Caution is advised, as pedestrian crossing could be risky.

WWF Castel Romano Oasis

an oasis of biodiversity was born from an abandoned area, the result of a redevelopment project in collaboration with WWF Italy. The oasis offers 1,500 meters of paths in the Mediterranean forest, with 5,000 new shrubs and aromatic plants. It is home to wildlife, such as foxes, birds of prey, and birds, and offers wetlands with protected amphibians and orchids. The hives produce honey, which will soon be available to visitors. For families, there is a natural playground and picnic areas for relaxation.

Tenuta di Castel Porziano

located 25 km from Rome, it covers 60 km² and includes beach, dunes, forests and wetlands, hosting a rich biodiversity. It is a refuge for numerous animal and plant species, including ungulates, birds, and reptiles. Since 1999 it has been a Nature Reserve and is part of the Natura 2000 network. Historically important, the site preserves Roman and medieval remains, with an archaeological museum in the Castle. The agricultural landscape includes traditional livestock and non-intensive crops.

a fascinating combination of history and art. The Rocca, the ancient acropolis of the city, dominates the tuffaceous plateau with traces of settlements dating back to Roman times. Castrum Inui is the archaeological site of the fortified port center located at the mouth of the Incastro ditch which preserves the remains of temples and altars, testifying to its religious and commercial role. Landriana Gardens

the gardens were created at the behest of Lavinia Taverna, who together with her husband, the Marquis Gallarati Scotti, bought the land in 1956. The project was entrusted to the English landscape architect Russell Page. Today they host the Market Exhibition of quality gardening "Primavera alla Landriana".

Marine Protected Area of the Secche di Tor Paterno

located in front of the Presidential Estate of Castel Porziano, it is a submerged paradise that covers over 1200 hectares of seabed. This real submerged island is a natural refuge for numerous species of fish, such as moray eels, sea bass, monkfish, groupers and eagle rays. The area is covered by Posidonia oceanica, red gorgonian and other rare plant organisms such as alcyonarians and black coral. The area is particularly popular with divers, who can explore its crystal clear waters and discover a unique biodiversity. Established in 2001 and managed by the "Roma Natura" body, the Marine Protected Area of the Secche di Tor Paterno represents a fundamental natural resource for the conservation of the marine ecosystem.

Sughereta di Pomezia Nature Reserve

cork oak and evergreen oak forest, which thanks to its unique microclimate is home to a variety of fauna and flora. Archaeological Museum "Lavinium"

this multimedia museum preserves the finds from the archaeological area of Lavinium. Among the most important objects are the statue of Minerva Tritonia, the so-called "talking statues", a reconstruction of Aeneas' ship and the "optical theater".

Archaeological Area of Ancient Lavinium

here are the remains of the Latin city which, according to myth, was founded by Aeneas. Among the most significant monuments are the Sanctuary of the Thirteen Macaws, consisting of thirteen aligned altars, dating back to the period between the sixth and fourth centuries BC, and the Heroon of Aeneas, a princely tomb from the seventh century BC.

Church of Santa Maria delle Vigne

this church dating back to the fifth century AD has an octagonal plan and is located near the Archaeological Area of Lavinium. It is also known as "La Madonnella".

Numico River

navigable in ancient times, at its mouth, according to myth, the landing of Aeneas took place. It is currently known as "Fosso di Pratica di Mare".

City of Pomezia Museum – Twentieth Century Laboratory

inaugurated in 2019 on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the foundation of the city, it tells the modern history of Pomezia through texts, images and films. It includes a library, an archive and is divided into five thematic sections: Pomezia in Cantiere, Government and Territory City, Pomezia in Review, Founding Peoples and Industrialization and Development.

Piazza Indipendenza and the Historic Center of Pomezia (Architectural Nucleus of the Noble Foundation)

formerly known as Piazza dell'Impero, it is an emblematic example of rationalist architecture. Here you will find the Civic Tower (used as a cistern and rebuilt after being destroyed during the Second World War), the Town Hall, the Post Office building, the Church of San Benedetto da Norcia, the former Casa del Fascio (now the headquarters of the Municipal Police) and the Petrucci Gardens. Since 2019, it has housed the City of Pomezia Museum – Laboratory of the Twentieth Century.

Village of Pratica di Mare (waiting for the reopening to the public)

located on the acropolis of the city of Lavinium, the name "Pratica" derives from "Patrica," in homage to Aeneas, considered the founder. Inside we find the Church of San Pietro Apostolo and the Borghese Castle, whose tower was destroyed in 1944 during the Second World War.

Torvaianica

the name of this place originates from the Vajanico Tower, which was demolished in the period following the Second World War. Originally, Torvaianica was a small village inhabited by fishermen and sailors. Her notoriety grew nationally with the famous Wilma Montesi case. In the golden years of Italian cinema, it became a popular destination for actors working at the "Dinocittà" studios in Castel Romano.

Torre Maggiore

With its 34 meters, it is the tallest tower in the Roman countryside. Built on the domusculta S. Edisti, it is surrounded by an industrial area and is in a precarious condition, requiring urgent restoration work.

Tor Cerqueto Complex

An ancient medieval castle surrounded by walls and equipped with a 20-meter high tower, mentioned for the first time in the twelfth century. Its name recalls the oak woods that once covered the area. Restored in different eras, the castle was transformed into a rural village during the twentieth century.

Fausta Tower

built in 1927 as an irrigation cistern, this neo-medieval tower was designed by Count Giovanni Maria Ticca. On the top is visible the family coat of arms, a distinctive element that enhances its architectural elegance.

Borghese Hunting Lodge

elegant residence on the coast, used for hunting and leisure by the Borghese family. Once a meeting place for the Roman nobility, today it is visible from the outside from the beach.

German Military Cemetery

here lie the remains of 27,743 German soldiers who fell during the fighting following the Anzio landing in 1944. Among them, 3,770 remain unidentified. The cemetery was donated by the Italian State to Germany in 1955.

"Ugo Tognazzi" Civic Library

the facades of the library are enriched by the mural entitled "The antidoor", created by the urban artist Agostino Iacurci. The work draws inspiration from an episode from the sixth book of the Aeneid, which tells the story of the meeting between Aeneas and the Cumaean Sibyl.
