To hinder him, Juno asks Aeolus, god of the winds, to unleash a storm that disperses the Trojan ships. However, Neptune, irritated by the invasion of his domain, intervenes to calm the sea and save the castaways. Exhausted, Enea and his companions reach Libya, where they find refuge in a safe port. The arrival in Libya takes Aeneas to Carthage, where he is generously welcomed by Queen Dido, who, moved by the Trojan events, offers hospitality and friendship. Venus, Aeneas’ mother, intervenes by sending Cupid to awaken in Dido a deep love for Aeneas, thus guaranteeing protection against Juno’s plots. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Aeneas recounts the tragic fall of Troy. The Greeks, after a long war, deceived the Trojans with the famous wooden horse, which was initially seen as a gift of peace. Despite the warning of Laoco\u00f6n, who tried to warn the Trojans, they brought the horse inside the walls. Synon, a Greek prisoner, convinced them that the horse was an offering to the gods to calm the storm and encourage the return of the Greeks. Once the Greeks emerged from the horse, Troy was sacked. The death of Laoco\u00f6n and his sons, killed by snakes, was a nefarious sign of the deception. Aeneas, a witness to this disaster, remembers the pain and suffering of his people and his part in the tragedy. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

Later, Aeneas dreams of Hector, the dead Trojan hero, who appears to him in a tragic state and reveals the fate of the city. Hector urges Aeneas to flee and entrusts him with the sacred relics to rebuild a new homeland. Despite the dream, Aeneas decides to resist the destruction and faces several battles. Many Trojan heroes fall, including Corebus and Riphaeus, and Aeneas urges his companions not to give up, but the end of Troy seems inevitable. Priam’s palace collapses, marking the end of the city. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

At another time, Aeneas witnesses the death of Priam and the destruction of the city. Feeling the pain of his people, Aeneas is tempted by revenge, but the goddess Venus urges him to flee, as the will of the gods is now sealed. Aeneas, with his father Anchises, his son Ascanius and other companions, tries to escape, but is faced with the loss of Creusa, his beloved. Despite the despair, a divine sign, the light on Ascanio, gives hope. Aeneas accepts fate, but is tormented by the loss of Troy and the need to continue his journey towards a new destiny. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

After passing through several lands and islands, including Phrygia and the Aegean islands, the Trojans founded the city of Eneade. Aeneas makes sacrifices to the gods and faces mysterious signals, such as the vision of Polydorus, a Trojan prince killed by the king of Thrace. After receiving an oracle from Apollo, they begin to head to Crete, but discover that their final destination is Italy. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

During the journey, Aeneas and his companions face storms, plagues and new difficulties, such as the encounter with the Harpies in the Strofades islands. Despite everything, the hope of founding a new homeland remains alive. When they arrive at the promised land, Anchises, Aeneas’ father, recognizes that their descendants will found a great kingdom in Italy, as predicted by Cassandra. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

On the journey, Aeneas also stops by Helenus, a Trojan prince who now reigns over Greek territory. Helenus, after making sacrifices to the gods, warns Aeneas of the difficulties they will face, such as the danger of Scylla and Charybdis, and urges him to invoke Juno to achieve success. After religious sacrifices, Juno, trying to foster their union, causes a storm that brings Aeneas and Dido together into a cave, consummating their relationship. This act, however, marks the ruin of Dido, who feels betrayed when Aeneas, while loving her, must follow his destiny of founding Rome. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

Aeneas, commissioned by the gods to leave Carthage, leaves secretly, unleashing the fury of Dido, who accuses him of ingratitude and treason. Aeneas replies that his destiny is greater than his personal desire and that he cannot stay. Dido, overwhelmed by grief, threatens revenge and prepares for an extreme gesture. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

Acestes welcomes them and agrees to the burial of Aeneas’ father, Anchises, with a ceremony in his honor. During the celebrations, games and competitions are held between the Trojans, including a naval race, the race of Nisus and Euryalus, the fight between Dar\u00e8te and Entellus, and an archery competition. Aeneas rewards the winners and celebrates Anchises, promising to continue his mission towards Italy. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

Meanwhile, Aeneas receives a divine message in a dream that urges him to make crucial decisions for the future of the Trojans. During the chaos caused by the fire set by the women of Ilium, Aeneas prays to Jupiter for salvation and the storm that follows extinguishes the flames. Acestes’ advice pushes him to follow his destiny and continue towards Italy. Anchises appears in a dream and guides him, also revealing that Aeneas will have to visit the Underworld with the Sibyl. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

As they prepare to leave, a storm caused by Neptune’s jealousy complicates the journey, and during the storm, Palinuro, the helmsman, tragically dies after being deceived by the god Sleep. After arriving in Cumae, Aeneas prays to the Sibyl for a vision of the future and to find out how to reach the afterlife to meet the soul of his father, Anchises. The Sibyl predicts future difficulties and bloody wars, but Aeneas is determined to continue. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

To enter the underworld, Aeneas must obtain a golden branch, a symbol of sacredness. After completing various rites, Aeneas enters the realm of the dead, where he carries out the funeral of his companion Misenum and continues with the Sibyl through the afterlife. During the journey, she meets various souls, including that of Palinuro, the helmsman of her ship, who asks for help with a burial, but the Sibyl explains that unburied spirits cannot cross the River Styx. Aeneas also meets the soul of Dido, the queen who had cursed him for his death, and that of Deiphobus, son of Priam, who recounts his tragic end. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

In the end, Aeneas arrives at a crossroads: one road leads to the Elysian Fields, where the blessed souls rest, and the other to Tartarus, the kingdom of the damned. Aeneas arrives in the Land of the Blessed and meets Anchises, who shows him the future of his lineage, predicting the glories and heroes that will give rise to Rome, such as Romulus and Caesar Augustus. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The seventh book of the Aeneid describes the arrival of Aeneas and his companions on the coasts of Lazio. After burying his nurse, Aeneas, he sends messengers to ask for peace and alliance with King Latinus. Latino welcomes the ambassadors and decides to host the Trojans, although he is worried about the fate of his kingdom and the marriage of his daughter Lavinia. Although the girl is betrothed to Turnus, the young leader of the Rutuli, the oracles reveal that her destiny is linked to another man, a foreign warrior: Aeneas. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

Juno, furious at the possible union between Aeneas and Lavinia, decides to take revenge with the help of the Furies, in particular Aletto. Juno tries to sow discord between the Latins and the Trojans, arousing the wrath of the Rutuli against the Trojans. Aletto, in the form of an old priestess, incites Queen Amata to madness, pushing her to perform extreme acts and trying to distract Lavinia from her wedding with Aeneas. Meanwhile, Turnus prepares to fight against Aeneas and his men, ready to defend his right to Lavinia. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

Events follow one another, with the wounding of a deer by Ascanius which unleashes turmoil among the peoples, up to an open conflict between Rutuli and Trojans. The war approaches, with the preparation of several factions, including that of Latino, who, despite wishing to avoid conflict, is forced to take sides. Cities and tribes prepare for battle, forge weapons, and train troops. Among the warriors who join the cause is also Camilla, a Volscian warrior, famous for her speed and skill in combat. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Here, Aeneas is warmly welcomed and hears the story of Evander’s people, linked to the ancient founders of Lazio, including the figure of Hercules, who defeated the monster Cacus. Evander tells the story of Rome and its divine origins, showing Aeneas the significant places in the city. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

Meanwhile, Venus asks Vulcan to forge weapons for Aeneas, including an indestructible shield. Aeneas arrives at Evander’s refuge, who proposes to ally himself against the tyrant Mezentius, who oppresses Etruria. Evander also expresses concern for the future of his son Pallas, while Aeneas receives divine signs confirming his heroic destiny. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

Preparing for battle, Aeneas receives the support of the gods and the allied forces, with the promise of future greatness for the new homeland he will found, even if he is aware of the sacrifices he will have to face.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Turnus leads his army towards the Teucrian camp, but the Trojans, following Aeneas’ orders, prepare without going out to fight. Turnus tries to tear down the walls of Troy, but fails. She tries to set fire to the Trojan ships, but Venus intervenes and miraculously saves them. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

Meanwhile, two young Trojan warriors, Nisus and Euryalus, offer to bring a message to Aeneas, risking their lives by crossing the enemy camp. Despite Euryalus’ concerns, Nisus convinces him and together they kill numerous enemies. However, Euryalus is captured and killed, while Nisus sacrifices himself to avenge him. Their heads are displayed as trophies. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

The Rutuli continue to fight, but in the end, the divine intervention of Jupiter stops Turnus’ fury, foreshadowing a destiny marked by the will of the gods.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Jupiter cannot intervene directly and lets destiny be fulfilled based on the actions of the fighters. Meanwhile, Aeneas allies himself with the Etruscan leaders to confront Turnus. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

Aeneas faces several Latin warriors, killing them one after the other. The death of Pallas, Evander’s son, is one of the most tragic moments: the young man, a symbol of the heroism and sacrifice of young people in the war, is killed by Turnus. The struggle continues with the death of other heroes such as Lausus, son of Mezentius, who sacrifices his life for his father. The final step highlights the tragic awareness that fate is inevitable, even for the bravest. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Latins, eager for peace, send ambassadors, but Aeneas replies that the war is with Turnus and not with them. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

Re Latino discusses with his advisors. Turnus opposes the peace proposal and insists on the need to defend his honor. Drance, a Latin citizen, suggests negotiating with the Trojans, accusing Turnus of endangering the kingdom. Drance also proposes to give his daughter Lavinia in marriage to Aeneas to seal an alliance, but Turnus furiously refuses and prepares for battle, determined to fight. Camilla, a Volscian warrior, offers to face the Trojans, showing courage and fighting spirit. Camilla fights with extraordinary skill, earning the respect and fear of others. However, Arunte manages to fatally strike her with a spear, but is also <\/span><\/i>killed by the nymph Opi on the orders of the goddess of the hunt Diana, to avenge the death of the warrior devoted to her<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The war between the Trojans and the Rutuli reaches its climax. Despite the opposition of Latino and Queen Amata, Turnus accepts the duel with Aeneas, but the battle is postponed when Juno, through the nymph Juturna, unleashes a sudden attack by the Rutule army. The duel is thus suspended and the two heroes return to fight. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

During a fight, Aeneas is wounded in the thigh by an arrow and must stop to receive treatment from Venus, who restores him with a medicinal plant. Once healed, Aeneas returns to battle. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

Beloved, believing that Turnus is dead, commits suicide. The city of Laurentum is under siege and a fire threatens to destroy it. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

Turno and Enea meet face to face for the decisive duel. The gods decide not to intervene, and the fight continues without any divine interference. Aeneas, severely hitting Turnus with a spear, prepares to finish him off, but stops when Turnus, in desperation, begs him for mercy for his dying father, Daunus. However, when Aeneas sees that Turnus is wearing the belt he had torn from Pallas, the young hero killed by Turnus, his pity vanishes, and he decides to take revenge. With a fatal blow, Aeneas kills Turnus, ending the war. <\/span><\/i><\/p>

The poem is unfinished and ends by suggesting that Aeneas will marry Lavinia, the Trojans will settle in Lazio and will give life to the lineage from which the civilization that will dominate the world will be born: Rome.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Values: Aeneas is faced with a moral dilemma between revenge and clemency: although he is driven by the desire to pardon Turnus, in the end he chooses <\/span><\/i>justice<\/i><\/b> and revenge for the death of Pallas. His final choice highlights the complexity of heroic behavior: pity for Turnus’ father is not enough to stop his fury, and the justice of the victor is manifested in the final act. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
